I recently visited the Samsung Studio pop-up at Union Station in Washington, DC and switched my smartphone to the new Samsung Galaxy S8+. I wanted to give you a look inside of the DC Studio, and share my favorite features about the new Samsung Galaxy S8+.
The Camera is Insane
Since a lot of my work is image-based, and many of the social media platforms I publish on demand high-quality imagery, the most important feature in a phone for me is the camera. The Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ camera has an F1.7 lens, which means you can take photos where the subject is really crisp and in focus and the background is “blurry.” The Samsung Galaxy S8+ also takes super high-quality flatlay shots, due to the amazing back/rear 12mp camera!
Below is side-by-side example of a flatlay that I took to show you the difference between my old smartphone camera and the Samsung Galaxy S8+ camera.
The photo on the left was taken with my old phone. The one on the right was taken with the Samsung Galaxy S8+. Both photos are unedited. You can see the colors in the photo on the right (taken with the Galaxy S8+) are more vibrant and the image is sharper.
The Galaxy S8+ camera has a Smart Auto Focus feature that allows you to take the best possible photo, regardless of light or motion. If you’ve ever tried to get a photo without natural light, it can come out super grainy and underexposed. It really helps to have a powerful lens that can function well, even in low-light.
The Wireless Charging
Wireless charging is a feature I did not know I wanted until I had it. With my old smartphone, I was buying charging cords on Amazon Prime at least once every two to three months because they were always breaking.
How many of you have ever fallen asleep without charging your phone because you can’t find the cord? Guilty. With the Samsung Galaxy S8+, you can toss your phone on the wireless charging pad and rest peacefully.
The Infinity Screen Is Beautiful
The quality of the Infinity screen is absolutely stunning. The colors are vibrant and the picture is sharp. A good screen can make a difference in how you experience content, and I love how immersive this screen is – the sides even spill over the edges of the phone!
The Samsung Galaxy S8 also has some great security feautres, like an iris security lock
The iris security lock on the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ allows you to unlock your phone using just your eyes – so cool, right? It’s like the thumbprint scanner on other phones, but it works a little faster and is more seamless.
Have you ever dropped your phone in a pool? The ocean? A shower? Toilet? All of the above? Have you ever spent two days praying to a bowl of rice only to find your phone still will not turn on? Me too. I was SO excited to hear that the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ is water (and dust) resistant!
I’m most excited for a waterproof phone for when I travel. I remember when we were in Costa Rica and we went rock repelling, I wanted to bring my phone but could not because of the water. Now I can travel worry-free, knowing that I won’t accidentally ruin my phone if it falls in water!
What you can find at the Samsung Studio Pop-Up at Union Station
Virtual Reality Games
This was actually my first time checking out the VR technology. It’s something I can’t use words to describe. You really have to experience it to understand it. I’d recommend visiting just to check out the VR using the Samsung Galaxy S8.
The video clip below was taken with the 360 camera attachment for the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+. I loved how the 360º camera doesn’t miss a single thing!
Samsung’s Bixby Technology
Samsung’s Bixby Technology uses visual and voice commands for search. Below, you can see that I am holding up the phone against a landscape. I can use Bixby to visually show shopping nearby or recommend a place to visit.
You can check out all of these amazing installations in person at the Samsung Studio Pop-Up in your city – click here to find out how!
